Our Leadership

Our people make us who we are, and below are just some of the people behind us and our success.

Bill Southard – President, CEO, and Founder

Following college and a BSEE on the east coast, Bill looked west. He founded DST Controls in 1975 and is its president and CEO today. In addition to DST, his passions include mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, motorcycles, and blues guitar. Bill believes that all business should be personal.

Read Hayward – Executive Vice President and COO

NJ high school teacher in a previous life, Read oversees DST’s Marketing & Sales efforts and Partnerships & Alliances development. He also assists DST’s executive team with company direction, and HR when doing “strategic hires.” Outside of work, Read can often be found on his 20’ fishing boat with family, friends (or some lucky customers) or on a river bank with his dog and fly rod.

Greg Dumas – Chief Technology Officer

As the CTO of DST Controls, Greg has a large role in the Digital Transformation of DST Control’s customers. His 25 years of experience in real time industrial data and IT systems allows him to relate to problems at all levels of complexity. Greg holds 4 patents and he continues to innovate. In his spare time, Greg teaches Taekwondo to children.

Bill VanDervoort – Sales and Marketing Director

With many years of experience with automated systems, from military helicopters to semiconductor processing equipment, Bill brings broad controls and large capital project management skills to DST. In his 20+ years at DST he has held the posts of Engineering Director, Quality Director, and is currently Sales Director. In his spare time, Bill enjoys wine tasting, recreational archery, watching F1 motorsports, crewing on racing sailboats, and regatta race management..

Conn Mclean – Engineering Director

For over 15 years Conn has overseen—and performed as an engineer within—DST’s PI and Controls Engineering groups; and he keeps his technical skills current by occasionally serving DST’s key customers directly. Conn is a rabid fan of his hometown baseball team, the Oakland A’s, and enjoys attending games with his wife Gina and any of his four kids and their families.

Bryan Irving – Director of Operations

Bryan joined DST in 2006. He brought extensive experience in industrial manufacturing and controls to our manufacturing effort. He has provided support engineering support to our manufacturing clients and implemented a “Best Practices” program. He oversees our UL 508A certification. Bryan holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire.
